Promotional overlay on image (text on image)
The product image contains promotional text, a retailer logo, a call to action, or a watermark that obstructs the view of the product. Google disapproves these items — but also offers automatic image improvements that can remove simple overlays for you.
Common causes
- ·Sale badges or discount text baked into the product image
- ·Retailer logos or watermarks added by the shop's image pipeline
- ·Marketing banners exported as the main product image
How to fix it
- 01Quickest path: enable automatic image improvements in Merchant Center (Products → Automations) — Google tries to remove the overlay, and if successful the image is replaced and the product re-approved
- 02Otherwise upload a clean image without text or logos, and update the image_link attribute
- 03For many products, download the affected list from 'Needs attention', fix the image URLs in your source data, and re-upload
- 04Allow 24–72 hours for changes to reflect
