Missing value: size [size], color [color], gender [gender], age group [age_group]
Apparel and shoes are missing one or more attributes Google requires before the offer can show. Shopping ads and free listings expect gender, age_group, and color on Apparel & Accessories; clothing and shoes also need size. On a small Shopify or Shopware shop, Size and Color usually already exist as variants. gender and age_group were never written onto the row Google reads.
Common causes
- ·Size and Color sit on the variant in the admin, but
genderorage_groupare empty — they are not variant options, so nobody typed them - ·Values that are not in Google's lists (
womeninstead offemale,Kinderinstead ofkids,Adultinstead ofadult, multicoloras a color) - ·The parent product has the attributes; the variant row does not. Google reads the variant row.
- ·Shopify Google & YouTube: Size/Color map from variant options; Age and Gender have to be set in the channel's product fields (or a metafield the channel is mapped to)
- ·Shopware Shopping feed / product export:
genderorage_groupsit on the parent, or in a custom field the Product comparison / Shopping Feeds template does not export - ·Google inferred
google_product_categoryas Apparel & Accessories (or Clothing / Shoes) when the product is not apparel, then demanded these fields
How to fix it
- 01In Merchant Center → Products → Needs attention, see which of
size, color, gender, andage_groupis actually empty. Google's how-to says you can fill only what is flagged; on real clothing and shoes, filling all four is safer. - 02Use only Google's supported values, in English:·
gender:male,female,unisex·age_group:newborn(0–3 months),infant(3–12 months),toddler(1–5 years),kids(5–13 years),adult(teens or older)·color: a recognizable color name. Several colors asRed/Black, neverRedBlackormulticolor·size: one consistent scheme (S/M/LorEU 38). One-size items may useOS,OSFA,OSFM, orone_size - 03Put the value on the variant row, not only on the parent. Each size/color combination is its own offer.
- 04Shopify (Google & YouTube): keep Size and Color on the variants. Set Age group and Gender in the Google & YouTube product fields (or the bulk editor), confirm the Google product category, and save so the channel re-syncs.
- 05Shopware (Shopping feed / product export): map
sizeandcolorfrom the variant options. Addgenderandage_groupto the Product comparison / Shopping Feeds template — or to an inheritable custom field that template actually prints. If the attribute only exists on the parent, the variant line still goes out empty. - 06If the product is not apparel, set
google_product_categoryto the correct taxonomy ID instead of inventing clothing attributes. Google assigns a category when you omit one; a wrong inference is a common way this issue appears. - 07Re-upload or wait for the channel / feed fetch, then confirm the issue has left Needs attention. Processing can take time.
